Im Rahmen der letzten Apple Keynote im September 2014, verschenkte die Band „U2“ ihr jüngste Album der Band an alle iTunes-Nutzer. Das Album wurde automatisch in die iTunes Mediathek geladen. Nun jedoch entschuldigt sich Frontmann Bono, nach heftiger Kritik, für diese Aktion.
In einem Interview bei Facebook gestand Bono nun, dass diese Aktion nicht die Beste war:
Oops. Um. I’m sorry about that. I had this beautiful idea and we got carried away with ourselves.
Artists are prone to that kind of thing. Drop of megalomania, touch of generosity, dash of self-promotion, and deep fear that these songs that we poured our life into over the last few years might not be heard.
